PSP Retrospective: Ten-ish Years of Living in the Shadow of Hype—Part 1

PSP Retrospective: Ten-ish Years of Living in the Shadow of Hype—Part 1

Sony PlayStation Portable

When I first heard the news of the PSP being discontinued this year, I instinctively looked over to my red God of War PSP quietly sitting on the shelf, plugged into the wall. For over six years, I’ve been “working” on finishing Brave Story: New Traveler. I made strong headway back in 2010 or so, but then I plugged it into the wall to let it charge. There it sat for over four years. I told myself…

In this recap, I will explain the game’s setting, as well as what has happened up to this point in the…

Sailor Moon Crystal Act.1 & Act.2: Let’s Get Hyped

Sailor Moon Crystal Act.1 & Act.2: Let’s Get Hyped

Logo | Sailor Moon Crystal

As a rather closeted fan of the original Sailor Moonback in the 1990s, I never felt myself able to openly enjoy it. Back then, if a family member caught me watching, and my little sister wasn’t around, I’d have to come up with an excuse for why I was watching a show about girls. My quick excuse was the girls were cute. The adult asking said question would just scratch their head, shrug, and walk…

Nintendo Download: Week of July 28, 2014 (Europe)

Nintendo Download eShop logo

A lot of new content coming in this week’s Nintendo Download, but your mileage will vary as the indies dominate new releases. Along with the indies, the Wii U Virtual Console gets a new title in Pop’n Twinbee Rainbow Bell Adventures, originally released on the Super Nintendo.

If the releases don’t catch your fancy, maybe the sales will. A second round of NES game sales are happening this week.…

IMPRESSIONS: DieselStörmers

DieselStörmers | oprainfall

Early Access games are always a curious beast to tackle. On one hand, you get to try out a title before its full release, meaning you don’t have to wait as long while it develops its way to completion. On the other hand, people are being charged actual money for what could end up being, at best, a glorified demo or, at worst, a glitchy mess. On a third, alien hand jutting out of my chest, Diesel…

The Legend of Korra | oprainfall

It’s been about a month now since news first surfaced that Platinum Games was developing an action title based on Nickelodeon’s popular series, Avatar: The Legend of Korra. Since then, new details have been sparce, but exciting nonetheless. While we’ve seen a couple screenshotsshowing off the game’s cel-shaded graphics, nothing really beats seeing it in action. That wish is now a reality, as a…

Bayonetta Fighting a Gold-Clad Villain | Bayonetta 2

New screenshots feature combat, concept art, multiplayer mode.

Bayonetta 2 is just a few short months away from release, and new screenshots and information about the upcoming Wii U exclusive have been revealed, courtesy of a Famitsu article translated by Siliconera. The Japanese gaming magazine details a co-op mission-based online multiplayer mode, dubbed “Tag Climax,” where players will team up with a random user or CPU ally to take on enemies based on levels from the game. Challenges can vary from taking on waves of enemies to fighting various bosses from single-player mode. The levels are based on locations from Bayonetta 2‘s story mode and are shown as “Verse Cards.”

So far, only Bayonetta and Jeanne are confirmed to be playable, but players will be able to customize both characters based on skills obtained in the game’s main story mode. Players will compete to get a high score and can even wager Halos (the game’s currency) to see who comes out on top. Halos are used to obtain different abilities and equipment, as well as higher difficulty levels. The harder challenges are more expensive but offer a bigger payout.
